Brooklyn Bridge Commuter

The summer has been and gone in a heartbeat and it seems like so much has happened in the last few weeks.

This is the first post from our New York trip in mid August – tons of photos to work as well as a number of weddings but I wanted to share this shot taken on Brooklyn Bridge.

The weather was very hot and sunny, as you can see from this show which was taken at about 9am one morning. The last few times we have visited NY, the bridge has been undergoing something of a facelift, and this time it was nice to see it all finished and fully re-opened.

The pedestrian walkway on the bridge is split in half – one side is for foot traffic and the other for cyclists. I was amazed at the number of people who cycle over the bridge – in the 30 minutess we were there, I must have seen at least a hundred, and they do NOT slow down for anyone who might inadvertently venture into the cycle lane…..

I love everything about this bridge – the tall brick arches, the suspension wires, the colour, the sheer scale, and the history that surrounds it all.

We walked from Manhattan across to Brooklyn, but the best view in my opinion is walking the other way, where you have the imposing skyline or lower Manhattan on the left. We did go back one evening to the little park in between Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges but I will share those images another time.

I love the symmetry of this shot, with the low angle and the cyclist who came along at just the right time! 🙂
